HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOU NEED A HEPATITIS B VACCINE?
Hepatitis B is a dangerous infectious disease caused by a virus that can lead to severe liver damage, including cirrhosis and liver cancer. Studies show that nearly 90% of liver cancer patients have been infected with hepatitis B and/or C (*).
👉 To prevent hepatitis B, vaccination is the most effective measure.
Before receiving the hepatitis B vaccine, it is important to determine whether your body has already been infected with the hepatitis B virus or has developed protective antibodies. The following tests help accurately identify hepatitis B antigens and antibodies:
🔹 HBsAg: Hepatitis B surface antigen. This is the most basic and essential screening test to determine whether a person is currently infected with hepatitis B.
🔹 HBsAb: Hepatitis B surface antibody. This test evaluates the level of protective antibodies against the hepatitis B virus in the body. After completing hepatitis B vaccination, individuals should test HBsAb every 5 years. If the result is below 10 mIU/mL, a booster dose of the vaccine is recommended.
🔹 Anti-HBc Total: Total hepatitis B core antibody. This test indicates past or present exposure to the hepatitis B virus. Anti-HBc appears early and remains positive for life, even after recovery when HBsAg becomes negative. If a person is HBsAg negative but Anti-HBc Total positive, hepatitis B vaccination is not indicated.
🔹 Regular health screening helps you better understand your health status and take proactive steps to protect yourself and your family through vaccination.
