A cancer marker check for females is a blood test that measures the levels of specific proteins or substances (called tumor markers) that can be elevated in certain cancers common to women. The main benefit is that it can be used to monitor the effectiveness of treatment for diagnosed cancers and to check for recurrence after treatment is complete. While some markers, like CA-125 for ovarian cancer and CA 15-3 for breast cancer, are sometimes used for high-risk individuals, they are not reliable for general screening because their levels can also be raised by many non-cancerous conditions. Therefore, these tests are primarily a follow-up tool, not a first-line diagnostic test.
